"I'm starving" offensive?

Seriously? I mean it's a figure of speech. Its not meant to say that I haven't eaten in weeks, take pity on me. Why are people trying to say that it's offensive to those who go hungry.

Because it is. It's a figure of speech, AND it's offensive. Just as a rich person saying "I'm broke" is a figure of speech AND offensive.

Oh, dear Lord. Political correctness run amok.
If someone said that to me after I said, “I’m starving,” I think I would laugh hysterically.
That, or deck the person who said it.

Within the kinds of contexts where you're probably saying "I'm starving," it's not offensive. If you say it in front of actual starving people - it's (obviously) offensive.

Not really. As someone who is often quite broke, I don't care who says it. If a wealthy person feels broke... So what?

Exactly.

If I go up to a homeless person and start talking about how I hate my landlord and my house is crappy, that's out of touch. But if we are talking and you ask do I want to go to lunch and I say "yeah, I'm starving!" That's harmless.

Do you have any awareness of how uncomfortable people with your mindset make others?

You have to be kidding. This makes me want to claim that I'm starving even more, now, so the PC police can suck it.

+1

And how about this: When a fat person says "I'm starving," is the appropriate response, "yes, I can tell by looking at you?"

Yes, I too miss the good old days when people could make offensive comments without negative consequences.

"Retard" is no longer okay. "I'm starving" is fine. Not offensive.

I don’t spend my time around people with the pp.’s mindset. Why would I want to be around someone who I had to “walk on eggshells” around when conversing? I suppose pp could find something offensive in pretty much anything I would say. No thanks.

Yes, it was better when bleeding hearts didn't hold other people's speech or opinions hostage with the threat of being labled offensive or worse.

Way to take away from real offensive issues.
