Do non-senior HS kids have school on graduation day?

Anonymous
My child seems to think there is no school but I don't see anything about that.. Thanks.

If it's a daytime graduation, there's no school for sure as staff and faculty are involved in the graduation.

Yes, I discovered this detail quite by accident the other day while looking at the school calendar for another reason.

Just as I was taken by surprise yesterday morning when trying to rouse DS for school to learn from him that he didn't need to be at school until 11:30 because of some testing. Tomorrow too, apparently.

An e-mail from the school about these schedule issues would be nice.

us too - we got a phone call reminding kids to show up for HSA testing, but no information that your child didn't have to come to school if he/she was not testing. Same for PARCC, even though that was a different grade.

I think the school doesn't actually want parents to know how much teaching time is wasted even when a student him/herself is not testing

Ours sends emails and it's mentioned in the daily announcements (which are on the list serv) multiple times. Are you signed up for your schools list serv?

Hmm. Good point. I am on a PTA listserv and another one specifically for the program DS is in, but perhaps there is another school listserv I'm not aware of that traffics in this info. I do remember his middle school listserv shared the morning announcement copy, which was very informative.
