copper gutters

I live in a small 1930s colonial that is in very nice condition. We need new gutters--the current ones are original to the house, and they leak.

Here's the kicker: The original gutters are copper. I would like to replace them with copper, but I know that will cost a small fortune, an investment that probably is foolish on a modest house.

Still, I'd at least like to consider it. If you have copper gutters, can you share who fabricated/installed them for you? Thanks!

Why not painted aluminum gutters? You can get them in a dark bronze type of color.

We have copper in the front of our house and aluminum in back. Replaced copper a few years ago for about 3,000, full length of house and garage plus two 2 story downspouts and one 1 story. I think copper prices may have come down some since then.

Pp again, we used gutter guys but most fitter installers/roofers can buy and install for you. Just get a few quotes.

Can you just get them repaired?

It's the green patina against the brick that looks so terrific.

Nope, copper lasts a long time but 80 years is a pretty good life span for gutters.

Thanks, this is helpful. We have already replaced a length of gutter in the back with aluminum, so I'm fine with that, but if there is anyway to stay with copper on the front, I want to do it.

For the PP who asked about repair--I didn't realize until you asked and I googled that, indeed, copper gutters can be resoldered. I will have some people out to give us a diagnosis and price.

Thanks all. It feels kind of silly to be in a swivet about copper gutters....but I love my gutters! Earlier this evening, I was sitting here listening to the downpour outside and hearing the telltale sound of leaky gutters and feeling very sad, LOL.

Oh,

If that's what you are looking for, then there is no substitute.

I love it too.

When we renovated we gave up the copper gutters because it was so expensive relative to the ultimate impact. We'd probably be the only people who noticed the difference. In our neighborhood there was a rash of copper gutter thefts a year or two ago - guys coming in the middle of the night and just ripping off downspouts and gutters. It was nice not to worry about our gutters being nabbed.

Our friend had their copper gutters stolen in Bethesda. They hit a couple of houses on the block on the same night over the summer.

Tracey Tomlinson - he's a roofer, but did our gutters, too. They look magnificent. Depends on your neighborhood - but I think it would have looked janky to replace with aluminum.. he does work in DC/Bethesda a lot..slatelasts@aol.com
