I recently had a D&C at 12/13 weeks and the chromosome tests showed a healthy girl. My OB suggested that I go in and get some genetic testing done for my husband and myself and recommended the Genetics & IVF institute in Fairfax. Anyone have a ballpark figure on cost for this? They don't have anything on their website and wouldn't give me any info over the phone.
I had a genetic screening panel that my insurance covered (BCBS) for me, but not my husband. Even though I was a carrier for one thing they wouldn't even cover the test for him for that disease, which doesn't make any sense to me. After a lot of wrangling, we gave up and both had the Counsyl test done (100 diseases). It was $99 each. You should double check this, but it's my understanding Counsyl charges $99/person max, even if your insurance covers nothing.

Was this your first mc? How old are you? If everything was ok, this might not be necessary at all. My MFM offers genetic counseling but I had the Counsyl test done at Reiter Hill for a previous pregnancy...d

I had counsyl a few years ago. $99 for me and $0 for my husband after we discovered I was a carrier. If you're not pregnant and can wait an extra month for results you could always have just one person tested and rest the ther only as needed. Personally, I found that wait pretty awful, but I was pregnant already.
I had Counsyl before my first pregnancy (MC) and the results were such that my husband did not need to be tested.
Sorry meant to add that my insurance covered it 100% - I was already pregnant. |
