Slightly dilated VERY early in pregnancy?

Anonymous
I had some bleeding this weekend and went to the ER - they said my cervix is slightly dilated. I am only 7 weeks. Baby was doing okay. I am going to see my doctor this week, but does anybody have any experience with this? Needless to say I am freaked out. Seems to me that it's WAY too early to be dilated even slightly.

I have no experience with this, but from what I read, it could be a sign of an impending miscarriage, especially since you had bleeding and you are in your first trimester.
If you were in your second trimester, I would say it might be an incompetent cervix and you might need a cerclage, but since you are in your first trimester and have bleeding, it might just be the beginning of a miscarriage. Sorry about that, I wished I had something more positive to tell you. I would see the doctor as soon as possible if I were you.

I went to the ER this weekend too, because I had some bleeding. The first thing they checked was to see if my cervix was open.

I am sorry this is not a good sign. Take care I have been here before and I know it is scary and awful.

OP, can you call your doctor? To me, if baby is doing ok, this is not a miscarriage so much as maybe a threatened miscarriage. That might mean any number of things, but I would think that your doctor would be the best one to talk to. I'm sure you've already done this. I wouldn't wait until you saw him later on this week. He might recommend that you get off of your feet (or bed rest?) until you are able to have a cerclage put in, for instance, in case you have a short cervix (I hate the term incompetent cervix). All is not lost, but please call your OB, and obviously, you know you have to prepare for the worst, but I would still hope (and pray) for the best. Good luck and hugs to you.
