running gas to a home

Anonymous
We are looking at a home in Vienna that has an electric stove. Any ballpark on the cost to convert it to gas? I'm not sure where gas is relative to the neighborhood. The house is off of Electric.
Thanks.

you need to call your local gas company. Cost is by distance to the closest gas line. Only they can tell you where that is.

VERY expensive to run a gas line if the neighborhood doesn't already have one. It is almost impossible to give a ballpark without knowing where the gas is relative to the neighborhood, but if none of your neighbors have gas - assume it is going to be prohibitive.

So is it heated off of electric too?

Getting a project like this completed is a nightmare of permits and digging and city code. I would not buy a house without gas if you know you want it. That mess is not something you want to get caught up in.

If the line has to be run across neighbors' property, you may also be responsible for costs to repair their landscaping. Even if you get a ballpark from the gas company, assume it is much lower than what it will actually end up costing with permits and surveys and neighbors, etc.

OP, we just use propane. You can get a stove that can be converted to use propane/gas/electric. It was going to cost us like $60K to run a gas line to our house.
