how to balance multi zone a/c (masterbedroom is always too hot or too cold)

we are first time home owners and we inherited a 3-zone A/C (basement, 1st flroor, 2nd floor each has its own thermostat). Are there any tricks to balancing the air so that all the rooms hold similar temperature (other than the basement that we don't use daily). Thanks!!
