Opportunities for Teens this summer

Anonymous
If you are looking for something stimulating, rewarding and local to do this summer, look no further than the Teen Apprenticeship Program at Levine School of Music's Summer Music and Arts Day Camp. In the Apprenticeship program, young people between the ages of 13 and 19, interested and/or experienced in music, dance, art or theater, work under the guidance of the Teen Apprentice Coordinator and the camp teachers and help run all facets of the summer camp. Teen Apprentices are assigned in pairs to a group of campers or one of the teachers. Campers are aged 31/2 to 12. The program fulfills many area high schools’ community service requirements.

The Teen Apprentice Program teaches invaluable leadership skills and encourages self-reliance, imagination and discipline. As one apprentice said:

"I learned how to keep order and encourage the children to have fun. I learned that I was capable of taking charge, thinking clearly through chaotic situations and using creative ways to accomplish goals. I learned how to manage situations when many children were making demands of me at the same time. I learned I was comfortable in the role of leader."

Teen Apprentices:

  • - support all activities in camp including assisting the teachers in the classroom

    - learn and use conflict management techniques

    - gain leadership skills and learn to develop and rely on their own judgment

    - demonstrate and share musical talents

    - work with like-minded peers

    - have fun!

  • We still have spaces for Teen Apprentices (and campers) at our NW DC and Arlington Levine campuses, and at our camp locations at Gesher Jewish Day School in Fairfax and at St Bartholomew School in Bethesda, MD. (Our camp at Levine's Strathmore location is now full and maintaining a wait list.)
