Improving the curb appeal

We have already pulled the trigger on this one. I actually like the front of the house, i think it's kind of charming. But my husbands thinks the front porch and the dormer that sits on top of it are just poor additions. What would you do to improve the curb appeal?
P.S. This is a side entrance home and the porch is accesible only through french door in living room.

| I was expecting a monstrosity, but that's an adorable house! I think the shutters need to be painted, bushes trimmed back/removed and more variety needs to be added in the landscaping. |

| I think it's a cute house! Agree with trimming some of that shrubbery back a bit though so it doesn't seem so "hidden." Maybe add some hanging plants from the porch and plant a few annuals out front. You could also do a nice stepping stone pathway around to the side entrance if it doesn't have one already. |

"Poor additions"? It looks like this house is conceived as one piece, and the porch and dormer are integral parts of it. It is beautiful. I would just get rid of all those sheared shrubs and add other shrubs and perennials. |

OP, paint the shutters with glossy finish (Navy). Add some perenials in front of the porch like Hydrageneas or colorful flowers. Depending on your budget, could even replace roof with Metal or paint exterior house or add chips to the right side of house. |

| Very cute. Needs color. Paint the shutters a different shade than green (or black IMO) to make them pop a little ... as is they blend in with the shade and excessive shubbery. Add some colorful flowers around the shrubs. I think all you need is some accents to brighten the front up a bit. |

Hehe, no he is actually excited, but he is a very straight laced, symetrical kind of guy and it bothers him that the front is "loopsided" as he calls it. Thanks all for the feedback, appreciate it! |

PP here Just go to your local Sherwin Williams they are helpful, we painted our shutters Navy (looks glossy to me) on cloak gray wood siding. We get compliments all the time from our teardown neighbors. Maybe cause thats the only nice thing to say about old colonial. |

| I would rip out all the front hedges and have it professionally landscaped. They can add symmetry with the landscaping/shrubs that they use. Also add some shrubs with color. |
