| I'm trying to talk my sister off the ledge here. We are products of DC Public Schools and are doing fine professionally. She applied to private PK just because she thought that private would be a better foundation. She then started looking into a number of charters and decided to lottery as well. I'm trying to convince her that she should wait to send her kid to private and try one of the charters that they got. They lotteried and got Lee and LAMB. They also got into Lowell. She's confused and keeps asking me what to do? I sent my kids through public until middle and we will revisit private if my kids do not go for an application school. If given this choice, what would you do? Or if you have had same or similar options, what choice did you make? |
| Lowell. She can afford it. |
| If as you say, money is no object, she should go with Lowell. It's a great program and I see no reason why you should be convincing her to do otherwise. |
| Jesus, Lowell. Hands down. |
|
Lowell, if that's what she likes. It's great, and if she has tons of money then why shouldn't she pick her first choice of school?
If it were me and I were indifferent to the language component, I would probably choose based on logistics. |
| If she can afford it, Lowell absolutely. |
|
I don't support private. We should all send our kids to public schools.
So, if she wants Montessori I'd definitely choose Lee. LAMB is not real Montessori. If she really wants language she should chose LAMB. |
Feel the same way. |
|
Word on the street is that Lowell has been having serious discipline issues (Bullying, etc.) to the point where outside counselors were brought in to help. My neighbor tried it and fled screaming after a year, she hated it.
Of your three choices, I would do LAMB, no questions asked. |
|
In many ways, charter schools like Lee and LAMB are effectively a lot like private schools without the fees.
Given that PK education is relatively unimportant for a kid from an educated affluent family background it seems extremely foolish to pay for something you can get for free. |
| I don't support charters, so go with Lowell |
Right. |
? This is untrue. Our child is at Lowell and has never encountered this. Its a great school! |
|
I don't support private school or charter schools, because they're really both options to allow people to get out of traditional public schools options. So there!
|
This. I would do private for K and up. |
