Question about curtain rods and doorknobs

We're going to get curtains for all of the bedrooms soon, but we're not ready to get new doorknobs (most of them don't lock, so we will need new ones).

I don't know the first thing about decorating, so please tell me if the finish on the curtain rods and doorknobs needs to match? If so, what is a classic finish? I'm not going to want to change these out every few years because they look old-fashioned.

I was thinking of getting the dark brown (is that oil rubbed bronze? See how out-of-it I am wrt decorating?) curtain rods, but we'll probably get nickel doorknobs, although I can't guarantee it. Would it look weird for the finishes to not match?

God, I suck at this stuff. I wish it would come to be even a little easier.
