Party Games for Toddlers

Anonymous
Having a birthday party in a few weeks in my smallish backyard. Kids attending will be 2-5. What games can we play?

You can't - so just get bubbles and buy those blowers for birthdays that are fun, and let them play outside. If you have somewhere they can use it, get sidewalk chalk.

If you want to buy a parachute you can do that and put 1 or 2 balls on it and let the kids bounce the ball and shake it and go up and down and look under it..... you can buy that from discount school supplies, probably, and you'd use that over and over.

but 'games'? they can't use jumpropes, they won't understand the rules of flag football, pin the tail isn't much fun.

if you can set up chairs you could do musical chairs and just not remove a chair after each time. Or make it a game that they can/must sit on kids' laps and have 3 fewer chairs to encourage that.

Have some bubbles, a few balls, and some sidewalk chalk. Don't try to play games with two-year-olds. Just have stuff for them to play with. Make a sandbox and/or water table with those flat plastic under-the-bed storage boxes. Add some buckets and shovels and cups and stuff and voila! party fun.

blow up balloons (regular, no helium) -- little ones love to bat them around. Just watch for popped ones in case of a choking risk.

Attempting to get all the kids at that age to do an activity is equivalent to herding cats (mythbusters tested, it's a great episode). Instead setup "stations" to allow the kids to make something crafty, bubbles, sandboxes, etc.

I'm shocked at the answers. That age can play Red light green light, Mr fox, what time is it?, hide and go seek, freeze dance. I taught preschool and played these with the kids all the time.

There is nothing cooler than bubbles!
