Riverdale Baptist School

Anonymous
We were considering Riverdale Baptist for our 6th grader, but someone we trust told us that the school has gained the reputation of a PRIVATE public school (in other words, it has many of the same problems of the Prince George's County public high schools, but charges tuition). Has anyone had the Riverdale Baptist experience lately? What has your experience been like in terms of academics for your child? Thanks in advance for any input.

I don't know how it is now, but I graduated in the '80's and they were the most racist mofo's, & predominately white. Funny how that demographic has changed.

I agree with the private public. It used to have a sterling reputation but so much anymore. The leadership is terrible, especially in the middle school program. There is rampant bullying at this school and it is not addressed. Many teachers either don't adhere to or simply don't agree with the Christian ideals that the school holds as their mission.

For the price, I would stay far away. If you are looking for a religious option and don't mind crossing the aisle so to speak, many of my friends and neighbors send their kids to either Holy Trinity or St. Pius X. I'm assuming that you're looking in the Largo/Bowie/Upper Marlboro area since you mentioned RBS, but St. Jerome's and Holy Redeemer in Cheverly and College Park respectively are also good options.

Holy Trinity will be trading the frying pan for the fire. Math and science instructors for 7th and 8th grade are terrible. One math teacher is a PGC public school transplant and she has no idea what she is doing. Assistant principal plays cover-up. The new principal is a math teacher, but too early to see if he will make a difference. For private, go to Anne Arundel CT, Montessory, PGC French Immersion, or charter.
