clomid vs. injections

What is the difference?

Clomid made me crazy. Switched to Follistim---the emotional side effects were not nearly so bad. The stim results were the same.

My understanding from our RE is that Clomid is useful primarily for younger women (with good egg quality) who do not ovulate on their own and that the injectibles are far superior for older women whose issues include egg quality. Clomid has a negative impact on both cervical fluid and uterine lining development and quality, whereas injectibles have a positive impact on both of those (although the lining issue is more of a concern because injectibles are usually used in conjunction with IUI, so the sperm bypass the cervical fluid).

If I might ask did you have positive results with the FSH and what doc are you using?

I am going on Bravelle with my next cycle. We are doing the injectables with timed intercourse because there is no reason to do IUI. I have a luteal phase defect and my husband tested completely normal. As I understand it, with Clomid you have to do IUI because of the cervical mucus issue. With the injectables, you don't have to.

Clomid alone doesn't significantly increase pregnancy rates - as pp says, it is usually used alone with women who have cycle irregularities. My doc does clomid mixed with injectibles - he says they achieve the same pregnancy rates with as as with just injectibles, but as less cost.

OP here, May I ask who your doctor is? I am always looking for a second opinion.
