SAHM moms do you keep your kids in he after care program?

I do three days a week. They love it and I need it.

What aftercare program? Elementary school? No, our schools require that both parents (or the parent in a single-parent household) be employed, in school or incapacitated to register for extended day. SAHM doesn't qualify.

Nope. He's in K and by the end of the day he's ready for a snack and some mom time.

I work part time and end my work day in time to pick DC up, and no, I don't use it. I had to use it one day per week because of a work situation that caused me to get out later than 3pm, and it felt bad to me to leave him there an hour or so past when I was free.

I did for K and 1. DD asked me not to enroll her for 2nd. Around Dec she asked me to put her back in but it was full. She can't wait to back for 3rd.

Ours is so much fun and the kids begged to go so they go 2 days.

At that pojnt you are not a SAHM. You are just unemployed.

I don't think op is real. There is a certain poster on DCUM who lives to start SAHM vs WOHM mom debates. She is incredibly bitter towards SAHMs and I wonder if she comes up with scenarios to create threads to get debates started. Why would someone start a thread like this just to say they love taking up a spot at aftercare even though they don't need it. Doesn't make sense.

Our aftercare has plenty of space, so it's not an issue at our school. I work part-time and don't use it, but know of quite a few SAHMs who use it (because they need to pick up other kids, etc.). It's an option for anyone to use, not just WOHMs.

In the winter I had my older in Enrichment 3 days a week (cooking, science, Zumba.) in the fall and spring only one - cooking - because it is his favorite. After school we play until at least 4:30 at the playground. I knew in the winter this wouldn't be happening. I think it worked out well and I'd do it again next year.

No. I work part time so that I can get my kids at 3:30 when school is over.

Why do you need it? What's going on the other 30 hours a week they're in school?

I agree with you. It reeks of set-up. But then I look at about 75% of the threads on DCUM and think the same. Someone is stirring the pot.

I am between jobs now and I am one who has kept them in a couple of days a week because it's super fun. It's like a play date with all their friends. There's no part of their school day anymore where they can just hang out with friends. Yes it's about $20 a day, which I can afford. But you wouldn't begrudge a SAHM for sending her kid to an after school play date at a friend's house a few days a week.

Perfect analogy. My elem kid doesn't want me around at play dates anymore. In after care they get to PLAY with their friends.

I've noticed this, too. I think this and other threads with "SAHM" in the title are made up. I'm a SAHM and I don't know any SAHMs with kids in aftercare. It wouldn't make sense.
