If you miss the Out of Boundary Deadline

Anonymous
Does anyone know if you can still apply out of boundary if you have missed the deadline?
Anonymous
That's why they call it a "deadline". So, no.

From the FAQ document on DCPS website:

Will my child automatically receive a pre-kindergarten placement?
Not necessarily. Due to space limitations, some schools have more applications for prekindergarten than available spaces. In cases where a school receives more applications
than there are available spaces, students will be selected through a randomized electronic lottery that will be held on March 18, 2009. Siblings of current students at the school
will receive preference, as will students who live in-boundary for the school.

After the March 18th lottery, students will be placed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Not exactly:

"A boundary line in a prison that prisoners can cross only at the risk of being shot."

Depends on the school. Best thing is to go apply in person using the application furnished by the school. Most principals will then place you on their waitlist (after those who were on the OOB waitlist from the website).

Also, please note the following schools that just opened up more PreK slots:

From: "Welch, Meghan (DCPS-OOC)" Subject: PreSchool and PreK additions

Dear Parent,

You are receiving this email because you have contacted the Chancellor’s Office in the past for assistance in the Pre-School (PS) and Pre-Kindergarten (PK) lottery process.

I’d like to notify you of several new PS and PK class additions. These additions were based on demand and the individual school’s ability to accommodate additional classes.

While I know many of you would prefer classes at a particular school of choice, this is what we are able to offer at this time.

Tyler Traditional PS

Payne PS and PK

Beers PK

Francis-Stevens PK

HD Cooke PS and PK

Ludlow-Taylor PS

Each additional PS class can seat 15 students. Each additional PK class can seat 20 students.

If you are already on the waitlist for any of these schools, an additional class many help your chances for acceptance.

If you are not on the waitlist for any of these schools, we encourage you to call the school or email the Principal to add your name.

If you want to know where you are on the waitlist, contact the school directly.
