tax refund problem - DC Government Employee first-time DC homebuyer credit

Anonymous
We spent more than a half hour on hold with the DC tax line today and couldn't wait any longer. Maybe one of you very smart people knows the answer?

Turbotax promised us a $2000 DC Government Employee first-time DC homebuyer credit because I'm a teacher and we bought a house in DC in 2014. We got our refund, minus the $2000. Some googling shows me that this credit expired on Dec. 31, 2014 (http://dhcd.dc.gov/page/eahp-tax-credit-elimination), but shouldn't we still get it since we bought the house before the credit expired?

Does it make a difference that I'm a DC teacher but my husband is not? Turbotax seemed to think we still qualified for it.

Is it possible that credit will come separately?

Thanks in advance, DCUM-ers.

Try calling turbo tax. May be less hold time at least.

Did you apply for and go through te approval process for EAHP? We are doing this now for our house purchase. The tax credits did expire but if you did the program last year you would get it for 2014.

When I had a tax issue with DC Government, I got exasperated with trying to get someone to pick up the phone or call me back. So, I went one morning and sat in their offices until someone agreed to meet with me to resolve the issue. PITA but the problem got resolved.

OP here.

23:49 - will do.

06:12 - no, we didn't. we didn't get a loan through them, though. is it too late to do this now? do we need to, given that we aren't requesting loan assistance, just the tax credit?

10:32 - yes, that does sound like a PITA. good for you for getting it done, though! hope we don't end up having to do that. as a teacher, though, i guess i could spend all summer there. and maybe they would take pity on my (soon to be) very, very pregnant self.
