Can you repair a split in wood without refinishing the entire piece?

I have a chest of drawers in whitewashed oak and I noticed that the wood has split on one of the drawer fronts. Is there a way I can repair it without refinishing the drawer? I was thinking of putting some white wood filler in the crack and then using wax crayons to try to match the color of the wood.

We had part of our bed footboard crack during a move. The furniture repair guy put on super duper glue. And then touched up a tiny bit with some marker. You can barely see the crack now.

A product I've used called plastic wood. You can buy it at Home Depot. I used it on my wood floor.
