I would think they would wait til after their numbers are all in - probably starting to call people around April 6th

Also keep in mind that some schools over-admit by a little or a lot, depending on their projected yield. So even if schools have received emails or calls from parents declining an offer of admission, the schools may still not have an open spot (if they anticipated a certain number of declines) and may not be in a position to go to the waitlists yet.

Schools definitely move to the wait pools before the first week of April - if people who have decided to go somewhere else let them know. I know people who have waited until the last minute to let schools know since they feel it is an awkward call to make. Another friend left a message after hours and received a lovely call back.

Turned 2 schools down today, and let a 3rd know we'd like to be taken off the waitlist.

Not PP, but we turned down or asked to be taken off W/Ls @ B'voir, Maret, NPS, + Sheridan.

Not PP but we haven't done it yet but will be declining Sidwell (Pre-K) and we are on W/L at B'voir which I presume I'm supposed to call as well? Those were the only two we applied but decided to...gasp...go with DC Public (we will save that money for high school).
