| My son is 2.5yo and has been with Infant/toddler since about 3 months due to a long NICU stay. He has global delays but is very social and happy. We haven't gotten to his IEP meeting yet, but there is talk of putting him in for 5 hours a day to get the maximum support. Just feeling a bit overwhelmed about him having such a long day, especially when currently he still naps 2-3 hours and that would fall during his 'school day'... so is it even worth it for him to be there that long if he's either napping or super tired from missing his nap? We're in MOCO, so there's no rule we have to stop infant/toddler at age 3. Just curious how other parents have dealt with this type of situation. |

We have loved PEP for our son who started when he was 4. My child does a half day program, twice a week. Could you ask for a similar schedule?
Tell them your concerns. perhaps if he starts part time this year, he could go full days next year? |
| We had the best experience in the world at PEP. Our son was in for half days at Montgomery Knolls, and we just loved it. It's five years later, and we still keep in touch with his teacher! He also had to give up naps to attend, but he was five so it was different. You know your child best - do what you think is right . Good luck. |

PEP is the highlight of Montgomery COunty special education. Almost everyone has a good experience and is pleased with the instruction and services.
Unfortunately, once kids leave PEP, people often report that the services aren't as well coordinated, delivered, implemented. |
9:23 here. That was exactly our experience. |
| We were in PEP and very happy. Are they talking about PEP Inc for you or PEP C? PEP Classic is five mornings a week for age 3 and five afternoons for age 4. That's what we did and liked it a lot. Much better than continuing with itinerant therapies in your house with Infants and Toddlers. Have you already toured the program they are suggesting for your kid? You should also look at the PEP options one level up and one level down in intensity. Remember that you don't have to take the option that they are suggesting and can make a case for why your kid should be in a particular program. An advocate is particularly helpful in this regard. In my kid's case the I&T team wanted to give him a placement I didn't agree with and I fought for Classic and got it. Fatigue due to a longer day was one part of the case I made and I submitted a doctor's letter to that effect. |
| One of the things to think about is related services. It can be difficult to get all of the related services (OT, PT, SP/Lang) in during a part-time schedule. So, that may be one of the reasons why they are recommending a longer day. |
| Our son did PEP Collaborative at Viers Mill ES and it was terrific. |
