Travel to Riviera Maya Mexico -- Did anyone in your family have stomach trouble?

| We were there last December. Stayed at a resort and no stomach issues at all. Not sure if it was necessary, but we brushed our teeth with bottled water and told kids to close their mouth in the shower. |

| We've been there twice (Cancun) in 2012 and 2013, and no one in our family ever had trouble. We stayed at a resort in the Hotel Zone, and drank the ice in the glasses and used the water in the hotel to brush teeth, and we were all fine. |

OP here. Thank for your replies! Please keep them coming. 4 y.o. DC often ingests some water while swimming. Pools and the ocean are OK given this, right? Also, I would love to swim in a cenote, but I'm worried about DC swallowing some water.

I would be worried about a cenote too. Still water (if it is still) is more problematic than fast moving water. Perhaps you can go on Trip Advisor and check out that particular resort and cenote? |

| My hubby and I got SEVERE[u] food poisoning in Valladolid in the Yucatan. I can not convey how sick I was. I pucked and had diarrhea simultaneously in the Cancun airport 24 hours later and it was hell. Hell I tell you. We got it from a taco resto in a food court in downtown Valladolid. Just be careful and be prepared. |

Ops I guess if you are at a resort you wont leave it right? Still be careful especially buffet foods. |

| We went a few years ago and split our time between a self-contained resort in Cancun and a hotel on Isla de Mujeres. Cancun was fine. Was an idiot and got a margarita on the rocks with dinner one night on the island. Lost 4lbs in the next 24hrs. |

| I've been 3 times. Only ate/drank at resorts. Never been sick. |

Just got back from a vacation in Cancun. We stayed at a highly rated all inclusive and no issues at all. We only at the food at The resort though and didn't drink the water. Brushed our teeth with bottled water. 6 year old DS did swallow pool and Ocean water a few times but no issues at all.
As long as you stick with known food places you'll be fine. |

| Bumping as this is sort of related - where did you all exchange USD for pesos? Our resort does not accept USD for tips and I am nervous about our debit cards being skimmed after reading an article on Gawker this week. Thanks! |
