how long did induction take for first time moms? i can't seem to find any info on this...

I'm getting induced next week and I'm wondering how long inductions usually take. My relatives are trying to decide when to come out and I don't know what to tell them!

I started induction on Friday evening (Cervadil) and had the baby on Sunday early afternoon. I think that is longer than average! When I checked in on Friday night, they said they hoped we'd have a baby in 24 hours.

Depends on if you are effaced or dilated before the induction begins. I was not and mine took 36 hours from the time of the insertion of the cervadil.

OP here...I am 80% effaced and about 1 cm dialated...I'm going to get the ripening agent the day before the induction.

I was 0 effaced and 0 dilated, though I did get the ripening agent the day before induction. Checked in at 6am Friday morning, had my son at 430pm Sunday afternoon. Didn't even get to 1cm to break my water until 5pm Saturday afternoon. But we were both healthy through the whole process...

I was 0 effaced and 2 dilated. I got the pitocin around 10:00 am and my son was born at 9:00 that night. I pushed for about 25 minutes.

I had a good experience in that I was really sleepy after I got my epidural (around 12:30) and slept pretty much the whole time until it was time to start pushing.

Good luck!

I was about a fingertip dilated and 10% effaced when I got pitocin (water broke spontaneously). I was completely dilated in about 14 hours and pushed for another 2 before heading off to a c-section (failure to descend).

OP, it really depends. On average, induction takes longer for first time moms - it could take 10 hours (that would be super fast) or it could take 60 hours. So many variables!

What is your Bishops score? This will tell be a very good place to start in figuring out what to expect.

they started the pit. around 7am (i was 2-3 cm dialated, can't remember effacement) and i had the baby at 8.20 am (1.5 hrs). yes, they had given me the cervidil the night before but it didn't do anything......... so the time can vary A LOT (it was my 1st baby).

OP here. I didn't ask my bishop score per say, but based on what my practitioner told me regarding the position of the baby, the effacement, and the dilation, I think my score is probably somewhere between 7 and 8.

I checked in at 9 pm or so and had the cervadil placed around 11ish. It was removed about 20 minutes later because of a few decels. In the morning I started pit at 7ish and was fully dilated and pushing at 1pm and delivered at 3:10.

Went in Mon night - cervidil at 9pm
Pitocin at 10am the next morning
Water broke on its own at 4
Baby born at 12:20am (30 mins of pushing)

I was 30% effaced when I went in and 1 cm dilated.

Yes, everybody is different.

It's been discussed here before, but induction goes a little smoother when the cervix is more ripe.

Baby #1 - 2cm dilated and 100% effaced - Pitocin at 9am, baby born at 3pm.
Baby #2 - same as above, but the whole thing took 3 hours.
