Hi there, we're about to buy a new king size mattress and I saw a few threads here in archive that mention buying latex being good (from Ikea). Also some about tempurpedic.
Just wondering, for those who have latex, why do you like it? What's different about it? And aside from tempurpedic, what other brands and styles are good so that if you have a restless partner sleeping next to you, you feel it the least? I think that's what memory foam is supposed to do, but which brands and styles "localize movement" the best? Thanks for any advice you have! Oh, most affordable places to buy them is advice also welcome! ![]() |
I'm a very light sleeper, and find any kind of foam is good. Just make sure there are no springs anywhere. Go try out the all-foam mattresses at Ikea. Some are dense foam, some have memory foam layers, and some are latex. |
Thanks!! Do you know if Ikea also has the best prices these days? Thanks again! |
I like our hybrid mattress -- foam on top to help with the motion, springs on the bottom to feel like a traditional mattress. It's supposedly eco-foam and did not off-gas like memory foam does. That's one benefit of latex, I've heard, that it does not off-gas at all. But I've read that it's hard to get used to - it's bouncy rather than sink-in. |
I had the same issue re: DH's movement waking me all night long.
We did research on this recently using this website: http://www.oldbedguy.com/ Here are his posts about latex: http://www.oldbedguy.com/?s=latex Based on reading there, we bought a split King (two Twin XL mattresses) and box spring set from charlesprogers.com. OMG. Nirvana. We are 100% thrilled. |
Select comfort type mattresses. Dh and I bought one back in 1999. My dh moves a lot in his sleep and was constantly waking me. Not anymore. |
Thanks all! We went to Ikea today to check out mattresses, and will be looking at a couple other places (just to be able to lay on and feel them) in the next week. Looking into the links above too, thanks!
Still reading, and still taking suggestions if there are any more ![]() |
Ikea latex mattresses aren't great (though they're a good price for latex).
You can customize each side of a king latex mattress so that you have your desired firmness and your DH has his. My DH and I only have a full size mattress, believe it or not, and I don't feel him move at all, thanks to the latex. (I always recommend Savvy Rest in Vienna for trying out lots of different latex combos. You can also get the latex at a really good price at Foam Sweet Foam online....all organic from both, but FSF is cheaper.) |
My DH and I just bought twin beds and pushed them together; it's actually worked out quite well, and I don't pull all the covers off him every night either. |
If you go to Savvy Rest, you should look at Urban Mattress across the street. They have a number of memory foam and latex options and are really knowledgeable. |
+1 Two XL Twins = One King, measurement-wise |
