We are moving into a much-loved home and need the following recs for someone willing to work in Upper NW DC:

Locksmith
Plumber
Roofer

Preferably someone who won't gouge us, but also want a professional who will do it right the first time (not a handyman's job this time).

I recommend a subscription to Checkbook and their archives. I have gotten much better recommendations from there than from neighbors.

Either checkbook or Angie's list is worth the subscription when you're buying a house.

Thank you so much for the Roof Solution recommendation - they were wonderful with my leaky flat roof and went above and beyond finding a solution I'd be happy with, and JP was always available by phone when I called with questions. They didn't rest until I was happy, and with so much else going on during my renovations I really appreciated the great customer service. Seems rare amongst roofers, sadly.
