Okay- mom of toddler here- but is WPPSI given at all preschools?

or when would someone have their child take that test? My daughter's only 2 so I know it's early- I just am a new mom and trying to learn about what we may face.

No, only required for application to some private schools starting with preK.

And people applying to those schools take their children to private testers.

The WPPSI is for children age 2 years 6 months to 7 years 3 months. In general, the longer you wait to have such a test done, the more information you can get. On this particular test, some subtests are only done for children aged 4 and over, so earlier testing doesn't give that information. (Of course, many people have to have their children tested earlier than 4 in order to apply to schools.)

Also, other IQ tests are available for children from age 6 or so, and children that age are much more likely to be compliant with the tester. As a result, later test might provide more insight into how individual children's brains work.
