There's a new head coach for our pool's swim team this summer and she's a bit older/more experienced than the college student coaches I've worked with in the past. I asked her about scheduling private lessons with her for our 9 year old daughter. She said yes she would do it but didn't seem to have a fixed price in mind. I told her that last year we paid $30/30 minute lesson with the head coach but that I recognized she had more experience.
So - what is the appropriate rate to offer/pay? n.b. we are in the Rockville area in one of the lowest MCSL divisions if it matters. tia |
| I pay $35/30 min at KSAC. This is for an RMSC coach. |
| $40 for 30 minutes - Bethesda Pool |
| $40-60 for 30 minutes in Northern VA. Unfortunately, group swimming lessons have not worked for DC and I was nervous sending her to summer camp without her being able to swim so we're paying $50 for 30 minute lessons once per week which is expensive. |
| Does your kid still need to learn how to swim? Why are you paying for private lessons for summer swim team? If your kid can swim well enough to be on summer swim team it doesn't seem worth it to pay for private coaching. |

Private lessons for summer swim team are not learn-to-swim lessons. They are lessons to help the swimmer refine his/her technique and swim faster.
OP, we paid our head coach $35/30 minutes in VA. He's an adult who also coaches year-round swim. |
| OP here - thanks for all the prompt replies. It looks like $35. for 30 min lesson is appropriate. |
| Our swim team (USA team, not summer swim) charges $45 per half hour lesson with one of the coaches. |
I pay $45 for 30. I'd consider $35 to be good if the teacher is great. |
