with spring on the way, i am looking for the ultimate cargo pant. ideally:
cropped lowish rise (but not too low) not too many pockets, flaps etc cotton with a bit of stretch under $50 (way under would be great) fits us shorter gals (petite size ideal) |
| I bought 2 pairs of Da-nang cargo pants (cropped) at HauteLook.com and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! And I mean LOVE!! They aren't on that website anymore (they only do short sample sales), but you could probably find them somewhere else. Not sure about the sizing though, since I am 5'9. |
| These are severe fashion don'ts, so they might be kind of hard to find. Cropped pants make shorter women look fat, and the cargo trend is so old it might even be retro at this point. Get some full-length cotton pants or some bermuda shorts. |
| What about JCrew? |

a few years ago, i found some fabulous cargo-ish pants at a store in Tysons called Janeville. The store may or may not still be there. The pants are, as I said, fabulous - they're tan, w/ a few pockets. they are not cropped, but they hang really nicely with kind of a wide boot-cut leg. they have a fly like jeans, but also a fabric belt that ties around the waist. that sounds weird, but i adore them. they're some magic combination of flattering and comfortable. I think they were around $80, though.

| 22:42 poster here again - submitted too early. you might also check the nike website or a niketown store if you find one - two summers ago, i found some great cropped cargo pants at the niketown on michigan avenue in Chicago. they were around $48. |
| I'm no longer an expert, life and poverty having gotten in the way as they have, but I'd be really surprised to hear that cargo pants are still around. We were wearing them... what... 2000? 2001 or 2002? I didn't think they were destined to become a basic. |
I'm not an expert either, but I am seeing them everywhere this year. Here's a cute pair at Bebe.

Honest to God OP I saw some really cute pairs at Eddie Bauer and at North Face in Tysons. Are you looking for a more traditional pair or something modern? Nordstrom has some super modern pairs, similar to the Bebe pair shown above. JCrew, Lands End, Dicks and REI all have really nice fitting traditional cargo pants. And I just found this, how funny http://www.cargopants.com/
Good Luck!! |
You're right, those are cute! |

Aren't cargo pants basically another version of "mom jeans"?
I like the J Crew version, by the way. |
Frumpy khaki pants are versions of mom jeans, not cargo pants. You could probably really make a "mom jean" version of anything though! |
Hmmm. I think cargo pants may fit into the category of "mom dressing like teenage daughter." I do like the J Crew version. |
| Unless you are very thin and tall, cropped cargo pants are mom jeans. As if they couldn't get more mom jeansy, I have seen people in these with sneakers, like running shoes. Ghastly. |
I bought 3 pairs in spring of 2007 at AT Loft, which while isn't the best quality clothing store, they do tend to carry the latest styles. I still wear them, but admittedly probably shouldn't because they are cropped and I'm onlyl 5'3" (gasp!). They probably look hideous on me, but I don't think they're that outdated. |
