| What are the point of these? Obviously not talking about seeing eye dogs. |
Yeah, fine, but why do these people put a little vest on their dog and parade them through the airport like they actually need them? Are they just crazy people? |
Because some people have a condition that needs the dogs to keep them calm. Panic attacks, anxiety attacks, etc... |
Because they don't want to pay for the dog to fly, so they get the dog certified as a support doggy saying it calms their anxiety. |
If a dog calms you down you don't really have anxiety. |
| You ding get to bring an animal into places like restaurants and food stores because of anxiety. Take meds or do yoga, or just have the dog at home. This is out of control. |
| *don't |
| Didn't read the article but I know these dogs are used for people with PTSD, like returning veterans, etc. |
True. A friend did this - dr. Wrote the note, no questions asked, just on her statement that she wanted it done. They had a 20/20 on it recently. The guy brought all these pets on to see if the airline would say anything. Only one airline stopped him...worked for a rabbit and even a hedgehog or something like that. |
I think you are confusing genuine, certified assistance or companion animals that are trained. "Emotional support animals" have no training or credentials. They interfere with the work of trained/certified assistance dogs. They are the bane of the assistance animal world. |
| I volunteered at an organization who trained dogs as Autism Assistance Dogs, Hearing Ear Dogs, Mobility Assistance Dogs, Seizure Assistance Dogs, Diabetic Alert Dogs, FASD Assistance Dogs, Facilitated Guide Dogs, Food Allergen Detection and Alert Dogs, and Multipurpose Assistance Dogs. These dogs were amazing and many of these conditions while not visible on the outside are still very dangerous. So please when you see these dogs be kind, you have no idea why they are by their owner's side. |
Totally different from an "emotional support dog," which is not certified and has no training and can be obtained by ANYONE. |
| Would you believe it if I told you that law students are asking to be allowed to bring emotional support animals to class with them? That is a bit much. Are they going to bring them into court or to a client meeting too? SMH... |
| My SIL does this. It drives me absolutely batty. She got a doctor to right a note claiming her dog assists her. This dog has zero training. She uses the note to take the dog for free on airplanes, threatens landlord's with no pets policies with it, etc. |
