I'm due in mid-May and just had a couple of questions regarding daycare.
1) Any suggestions of daycare centers / providers in the Silver Spring / Takoma Park area? 2) Am I right in assuming that I would probably have to put my name on a waiting list before the baby is born in order to get a spot by early August? 3) Finally, what are the "going rates" for daycare centers vs. Nannies these days? Thanks! |
I'm looking r ight now too. There's not a lot. I just visited Green Hill Child Development Center and there's also Little Feet Child Dev Center.
Also there's a group called Monday Morning Moms that helps place you with in-home daycare. They seemed really nice to me. |
A friend of mine said Green Hill was fine for her toddler. FWIW, we see the toddlers/preschoolers from Green Hill out a lot with the staff. The staff spend a lot of time on cell phones, or chatting with each other, or yelling at the kids from a distance. Have you considered Takoma Park Child Development Center or Takoma Children's School? Not sure if they both take infants. I hear good things about them, though. |
As the founder/director of a new Spanish Immersion Childcare Program in NW DC close to Silver Spring and Takoma Park I invite you to visit www.decoloresdc.com to learn more about the program.
I started De Colores because I had great difficulty finding high quality Spanish immersion childcare for my own daughter, who is now three. I've taken a two step approach to starting the business: first, I licensed my home for day care and have completely remodeled the lower level (with direct street access and private entrance) to provide care while we prepare our larger site. The larger site will be at 6216 Third Street NW, Washington DC and will accommodate approximately 20-25 children, ages 0-5. We are just beginning the build-out and licensing process and hopefully will be fully licensed and ready to go by late Spring, early Summer 2008 (although everything is subject to the DC Inspection Process, which in my experience, is a bit unpredictable). In the meantime, I am providing care at my fully licensed and insured home-based facility. My assistant and I currently care for two infants (ages 8 and 10 months) full-time and we are joined by my three-year old daughter after 3:00 pm. My daughter currently attends the Latin American Bilingual Montessori School on Military Road. At this time I only have two openings for toddlers, who according to DC regulations, must be 30 months or older. I am, however, accepting names the enrollment list for the larger facility. Once again, all activities, instruction, music, etc, are conducted in Spanish. I've attached the initial enrollment package and intake form so you can read more. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or to arrange a visit. Also, email is the best way to get in contact with me. Thanks in advance for your interest.
