Summer STEAM (VA STEAM Academy)

Not sure how many people from this forum applied to this free one week camp. Have many people heard back already from this camp re acceptance to this summer's 2 sessions? Does not hearing until the 24th mean the student was not accepted?

I thought they said they would notify everyone on 4/24.

We weren't accepted and found out today.

DD has not heard yet - website states they would notify everyone "by April 24th".

They had over 500 applications for 120 spots, and a number of the kids are "returning."

I would have thought they would have gotten 500 applications just from the NoVa area!

I wonder if the 500 was for the whole program or just one course?

They are setting themselves up as an alternative to TJ that's accessible to the whole state. It's already harder to get into the summer program than it is to get into TJ.

Doubt the latter is at all true. DD was accepted to Steam with just her teacher recommendation and a personal statement - TJ admission would be quite a different story!
