| Has anyone every been? |
| Bocas del Toro. We went back in 2005 or 2006. It was very much a backpacker place then and I'd guess probably still is. There was some sort of resort/condo development planned for Red Frog Beach on Bastimentos, but I have no idea if it happened or what effect it had on the island. |
| They did the development. Much of the island is still the same. Very cool place. Any particular questions? |
| OP here. We have the option of doing a day trip from Puerto Viejo, CR or tacking on 2-3 days in Boco Del Toro. I know nothing about it, but it looks gorgeous! |
| When are you going? Rainy or dry season? That might impact your decision. |
|
October, which is dry season for that part of Costa Rica.
Not sure what it is in Panama |
| It would be the same season - the weather should be quite nice so that's a plus. I've not been but heard good things about it. |
| We did 4 days a couple years back and loved it. I would be careful about where you stay though, the vibes are very different at the different resorts, so pick the best fit. |
| 17:20 where did you stay? |
| Had some friends who went there, they loved it, good snorkeling, off the beaten path, their lodging was an old school style palapa on the beach with a mosquito net. |
| The Palmar Tent Lodge is great. Run by some guys from Bethesda. |
| OP here! Thanks for all of the info. I definitely think we will carve out some time for Boco Del Toro. If anyone has any other suggestions for BDT or the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, they are much appreciated! |
| I'm trying really hard not to resort to my Lonely Planet Thorntree persona here, but it's difficult to give advice or suggestions when 1) you give no specifics about budget, kids/ages, length of stay, interests, etc. and 2) you insist on spelling the name of the place incorrectly. |
Dolphin Bay Hideway. A couple years and several vacations later, and a picture of the property remains my screensaver. |
|
Op here: apologies on the spelling.
No kids, can spend up to $400 on hotel and we are looking to eat, drink and bake in the sun while doing some water sports. |
