I can guarantee you some of these U13/U14 girls are not going to be dominant when they are older. Happens every year here though. Parents of the U12/U13/U14 talking championships, college, etc and two years later the poor kid is 5’1”, skinny, and gets pushed off the ball by bigger defenders and somehow still tries to ball hog because little Sally still thinks she is a star. Some teams will have 3 or 4 of these players and the team goes from being one the best to well, pedestrian. This isn’t even bringing in the who ACL aspect.

Remember Arlington 08s? Went from 1st to almost last in one year. Bethesda 08s were at the bottom 2 years ago. Loudoun 08s used to be below Arlington and not that good. Brave 08s were winless 2 years ago I think. VDA 09s were bad two years ago. Could go into older ages but I don’t think many of you would know.

My best advice to you is to raise your kid as an unselfish team player. Selfish players who YOU think look good are not from a College Coach view point. Those are a dime a dozen. It’s the players that have high energy combined with high IQ that make everyone around them better, that is what your DD should be striving for.

2009 age group is a good example where Bethesda and Pipeline were amongst the best teams in the country a U12 and U13 but have fallen off a cliff.

I remember Pipeline 2009 being a kick and chase team with the GK feeding the biggest, fastest girl on the field so it's no surprise they started to get caught when tey moved to 11v11.

And BSC 09 was only good because of the 2010s playing up and later the 2008 trapped players.
They haven't won more than a few games since the trapped help left.

Bethesda 09s were 1-13-2 in ECNL and a combined 0-6 in Jeff Cup and Premier Cup. It looks like last year they only had one win after the trapped 08s left.

Can anyone name one Bethesda team that hasn’t dropped off significantly in the older age groups? Bethesda older teams make Arlington older teams look great.

As far as Bethesda goes.

06s were good and finished 3rd. Arlington finished 6th. Only one team is selected for playoffs in that age group. Many more top school commits than Arlington.

08s have only gotten better. Finished 1 point out of playoffs. Just won North American ECNL cup. Arlington went from 1st to almost last and did not even qualify for Seattle.

09s have pretty much a completely new team and a new coach next season. Arlington had a better record but did not qualify for Seattle either. Not a big difference between the two especially since the North Atlantic is the tougher region for the 2009 age group. Two teams from NA moved through to finals while zero moved through from MA.

10s are returning to Nationals for a 2nd year and aren’t falling off. Arlington finished 11th.

No matter the club, seems a lot of parents come here to gaslight and post false information. It’s really sad some of you sink to this level.

Will all this Union drama make incoming BRAVE families reconsider their other options too?!

I am sorry -- what does "they barely played" mean? Who barely played?

11s that went with the 10s to the playoffs

Who cares?

💯 truth. North Atlantic is a tough division in the 09 group. Bethesda will be fine. Worry about you.

Do not focus on stuff like that. Let the kids play. Cream rises. Just relax and watch them develop and play.

What false information?

You skipped over the 07s who went from one of the top teams in the country four years ago to bottom three in the conference this season. They have gotten worse.

The 08s made the playoffs last year and didn't qualify this year after a season with only five conference wins so they haven't 'gotten better' by winning the NIT tournament. They have gotten worse.

The 09s only lost one game last season with the trapped 08s and only won one game the rest of the year and followed that up with a one win season this year. They have gotten worse.

The 2010s haven't even started HS yet so they're not part of the 'older age group' discussion yet.

You can spin it how you like, but the facts don't lie and nobody is spreading false information.

I agree with the bargaining chip post. Parents complain, coaches play favorites, its not so simply as just let them play when there is so much bias and favoritism. This applies to Union 2010/2011 soon to be FVU but also many many other teams. You all know it.

I’m obsessed with all chest thumping Union parents being humbled. ML did not have any confidence in the team. He thought he had to take younger players to supplement.

ML is a stooge. CW complicit. 2011 taken not for competitive reasons since they were just coming off injury but politicial.

I am sure coaches play favorites -- the better players. I really doubt there is much if any bias or favoritism on local teams and we have been in a couple of clubs. You do just let them play and stay out of the way. If they are good it will not matter. Let it be them and not you.

NM still collecting multiple massive paychecks. CW and him living off success from years ago when there were only 2 ECNL clubs in nova. Where would they be without SYC bailing CW/NM out in the 2008,2009,2010,2011 age groups? And now BRAVE has to bail them out. Keep drinking the koolaid.

2010s Union had a roster of 15 through the season and two players left (did not travel to Seattle) so they were down to 13. No coach in their right mind goes to playoffs with 12 field players (one of the 13 is a goalie). Made sense to bring 2011s as subs. Had Brave 2010s not made playoffs at the last minute, Union would have rostered a few Brave players on their team for playoffs instead.

LOL, mentions 07s from four years ago when they were in the 7th grade as a top team. Proceeds to say the 10s aren’t part of the discussion because they are going into 9th grade.

Obvious agenda is obvious. Arlington U14 and up couldn’t even make it in to what you call the “NIT” group yet alone win the whole thing. Arlington 08 actually flipped for the worse more than any team in our area. Bethesda 08s finished 4th by goal differential and went on to win “NIT” which is not easy anyway. Bethesda 08s finished 3rd last year. Oh the horror. Yet Arlington finished 3rd, maybe even higher, last season and FINISHED 11th THIS SEASON NOT EVEN QUALIFYING FOR A SHOWCASE.

You are throwing stones in an extremely thin glass house in Arlington. Not sure why you are bringing smoke towards Bethesda when they really don’t compete against each other for anything.

I'm the OP of your referenced post but am not the one who brought up Arlington. You can cherry pick what you want, but you totally skipped over the 2007 team because they fell off a cliff and yes that's relevant because they are of recruiting age now and were once a good team that has not developed. We may be saying the same thing about the 2010s in a few years if they follow the same pattern as the 07s, 08s and 09s.

No coach in their right mind goes to playoffs with 12 field players (one of the 13 is a goalie). Made sense to bring 2011s as subs. Had Brave 2010s not made playoffs at the last minute, Union would have rostered a few Brave players on their team for playoffs instead.

No one is saying they should not take additional players to add to the 12 players. But the issue is that those players were not fit to play as they were just coming from injury and the other player bearly made the 2011 team. There were other 2011 or 2010RL players that were in form, hence the favourtism, politics and an insult to those 2011/2010RL players and families. That is why the 2010 and 2011 parents are upset.
