| What was the selection process like? I'm Asian-American and hubby is Caucasian. I would like an Asian-American egg donor, preferably of Chinese descent. Can you get that specific? Are such donors available in this area? |
| We used Loving Donations, becuase they have a wide selection of do its. They were also really, really great organizing the donor's travel arrangements and coordinating with the clinic. |

We did DE at Shady Grove. They don't have the hugest donor pool, but you can search by several criteria, including ethnicity. (You can't search for Chinese, just Asian, but each donor profile will go into detail about the donor's heritage -- e.g. "Mom is 1/2 Irish, 1/2 Jamaican, dad is 100% Iranian.")
Asian donors are relatively scarce in this area, but if you're patient, you can find one. We also were hoping to find a Chinese donor but went with one who was Korean. |

SG has it's own donor pool. But very low on Asians. They work with Donor Egg Bank USA with frozen eggs.
I'm also Asian and was lucky to find my Nationality very quickly. But since we choose last year, none from that country (or if they are, it's mixed with another nationality/race). If you go there now, there is a Vietnamese/Chinese mix. If you want to see what she looks like, sign up with DEB (free). My advice, if you see someone of you background that works--jump on them immediately!! Don't sit around thinking about it. Asians get gobbled up very quickly. If you are working with SG, but still going through testing, DEB allows you to put a deposit down and hold that donor. There are agencies that work have larger Asian pools, but that will cost you additional $$ on top of what the RE clinic will charge you (and the clinic will charge you more also because they are working with an agency that uses different protocols.) Good Luck! |
| I have a GF who is Japanese and was looking for a donor so I saw what she went through. It's harder to find Asian donors, but not impossible. (The global market for Asian egg donors is crazy.) Hawaii, in general, seems to be the best place for Asian donors in the U.S. (overall). I would start there. California or Washington State may also have some good options. |
| How does it work if you identify a donor in California or Hawaii or Washington State? do they come to you or do you travel to their state? |
It could go either way, depending on what you and the donor decide works best for you both. In general though, you're probably going to ID a donor through an in-house program in one of those states. In which case, you work with that clinic and you go there. You monitor here. Do retrieval and transfer there. |
It's a crazy trip if we are talking about Hawaii! |
We went to India. Hawaii is nothing. It's just about what's important to you. |
| Does anyone have do or egg clinic recommendations in California? |
SDFC is pretty popular out there. (Sorry, no experience) |
| What about traveling to Singapore? I've heard they're supposed to have good egg donor programs. |
