Capital city PCS

New to this forum don't see current discussions on this school. Is it regarded as one of the desirable charter schools for lower PK3?

Any insights? We have a low wait list number ?

Staff? Teachers ? Turnover ?

Last year we were #1 on the waitlist and we never got a call. There are a lot of siblings, and my guess is some ended up getting placed ahead of us on the waitlist. That said by around July, we stopped checking in with the school and just went to the school hit we had gotten matched with.

PP here - it was PS-3 last year that I was talking about.

CCPCS does early elementary as good as anyone in the city.

It is an established school - been around for 15 years and does not get as much chatter as the permenant location is not as easy to get to for many families.

I would never consider this a HRCS, but it would depend on your kid.

Why wouldn't it be considered a HRCS?

Well, the test scores are middle of the road, they offer no interesting teaching methods, no language learning, and I can't say that they're as in demand as the other charters. In fact if you do a dcum search you'll find them called "dime a dozen" type charters. I'd only consider these if my inbound school was terrible and the location was convenient for me.

I did meet someone who roundly bragged to me that they were their #1 choice and they got in on the first try. So clearly some people like them.

This is MY OPINION, so if you like them, great! There isn't enough seats to go around as it is!

I liked CCPCS a lot on the tour, but I didn't think it was worth having a commute to the school that was away from downtown. I have a friend there who is happy with the early childhood program, and another with a child in middle school who likes it, but they said there is no way they will be staying for high school--if they don't get into an application school, they will move IB for Wilson.
