Pulled muscles from coughing too much

Anonymous
I have had bronchitis for 2 wks now and its not over. I woke up this morning feeling a lot of pain in my back & chest, and with nearly every breath its even more uncomfortable.

I think I pulled a few muscles. Anything that can help with this?

I had this once, and i think i actually fravtured a rib. Really strong pain medicine. Warm baths. Thats about all you can do. And rest.

Ugh, that sucks. Are you taking cough medicine?

Advil

My dad broke a rib coughing once.

OP here.I have been taking Advil but I can still feel pain.

Its weird. I have this constellation of symptoms that either morph or won't go away. The chest and back muscle pain isthe latest.

It started with a bad cold, one day of fever, then the next day a sore throat, the sore throat has been there for ten days now. Its morphed into congestion, and then bronchitis. This was accompanied with tons of coughing. And now I have the back andchest pain. I have never been sick this long. And no matter how many vitamins, supplements, soups, salads, other healthy food I eat...its not going away.

BTDT. You need medicine that suppresses coughing. No other way for the muscles to recover. I don't know if you can actually pull your stomach muscles by coughing, but they definitely get strained and injured. They need a break like any overworked muscle would.

I did that once and then later sneezed and broke a rib.

My dr gave me all kinds of pain meds. You're still gonna be in pain, though. I was taking oxycodone and still felt pain.
Rib injuries suck.

Yep. Get the some codine-laced cough medicine. You'll be loopy, but it will work.

Once I was convinced I'd cracked a rib from coughing (and even persuaded my doctor I had.) Turned out in the end that I actually had pneumonia. No one had told me that chest pain was a symptom of pneumonia, or I would have agreed to an x-ray earlier.

Yes, OP, I was going to mention pneumonia as well. I had all sorts of weird, painful and unrelenting symptoms when I had it. Worth another trip to the doctor's to check. It can develop after other illnesses.

I'm sorry you are suffering so much.

Yes please get to the dr to get checked out. Pneumonia can be serious. Are you on antibiotics?

Yes this happened to me from a bad allergy cough that lasted weeks. I had a series of steroid shots to clear it up but actually drove myself to the emergency room while DH was out of town thinking I broke a rib... Just tore a muscle and it was very painful!
