Have honey oak (orangy oak) cabinets. Looking at refacing them. Floors are also orangy builder oak. The goal is to tone down the orange and wood grain! Backsplash is beige travertine smaller tiles (nothing fancy -- put in by the original owner just before listing the house). Granite is tropical brown.
This is not a chic style -- it's warm and casual. Considering white (not bright white, but something called featherdown -- so a bit off white, but not yellow-ish) for the cabinets. I feel the bright white would be too stark/modern with so many warm tones in the granite, backsplash and wood floor. Question: would you keep the small island the same white or would you make it different? This kitchen is not wide. There is just enough room for an island that is one cabinet deep. There is not enough room for that island to have barstools or an overhang. It is our main workspace. Should I keep the island the same or change it? As a side question -- I'm also considering mid/light maple toned cabinets. Would choose a shade that is less orange-y, but it will still have the wood look. Any opinion on that vs. the white? |
You could do cream cabinets and brown island (something that would contrast enough with the counters. Or you could do something fun like a brighter color for the island -- a deep red or bright blue. |
Can you post a picture? |
I think cream cabinets sound good. Island can be cream or, if you are bold, almost any color. I'd do a sort of barn red. |
