Does anyone train for triathlons? If so, what gym do you recommend that has a good pool for swimming throughout winter?
Finally, what's your favorite tri in the area? Thanks!

| Where do you live? I would recommend joining a masters swim team that practices in a pool near where you live. Masters teams have all levels of swimmers, and this time of year you will find many people joining teams for the same reason as you are to work on the swimming part of your Tri. |

Yes, do check out (and join!) DC Tri Club. They've got a great network of triathletes - mainly in DC and VA - and they get together to do swim training throughout the year. They tend to train locally, so they'll have folks in upper NW DC who train at Catholic University's pool, folks on Cap Hill who train at Eastern Market, etc. It just depends on where you live and what's most convenient for you. We used the Takoma community pool, and they've got DC Tri folks who meet there all the time.
They are incredibly supportive, also, if this is your first foray into triathlons. I completed their New Triathlete Program (NTP) a couple of years ago, and it was great fun! http://dctriclub.org/ |

| Thanks everyone! I'm moving there so I'm looking for neighborhoods as well. I'm assuming they're using the public pools for the masters training? I've heard good things about DC public pools. Yes? |

| The DC Takoma Park Rec Center has an amazing pool--not sure what you're looking for in a neighborhood, though. |

I did the tri training program at the YMCA on Rhode Island severa years ago, I'm not sure if they still have it. If they do it started already to get ready for the season. They do have a nice pool, though. In summer the best pool is Haines Point - 50 meters outside - like a dream.
Columbia is a great tri in Columbia, MD but it is sold out and for the hard core. I did this the first year on a hybrid and I was the ONLY one! this site has a good list: http://www.trifind.com/md.html |
