We are moving out of our current house and into a new house. I'm thinking about the new house and what I want to do in there and I keep thinking of the same things I have done in our current house.
For example. I'm very drawn to blue. Right now, our master is blue, our kitchen is blue our bathroom is blue -all different blues , but blue nonetheless. I'd like to try a new look in the new house, but can't seem to see past this color palette. The new house has a green foyer with white wainscoting. I don't care for the green (muted), but all I can see is blue when I look at it. I'm trying to branch out and then start thinking maybe change it to a cool gray. I don't know, I need some better ideas. It's frustrating trying to get out of my own head. |
Maybe spend time browsing through houzz and saving any photos you like that aren't blue? You can even search specifically for bedrooms or other rooms in a particular color. |
Also, if you aren't planning to completely redecorate, look closely at any key pieces or art or furniture or rugs you plan to keep -- what are some of the main colors in those that you can build off of? |
I think the trouble I'm also having is that the new house is more formal than our current house. Current house is very cottage like. New house is colonial style - formal living room and dining room. |
Don't veer away from your favorite color scheme just because you think you have to change. Do what makes you happy. |
I would browse blogs and see what styles you go towards. I'm not the hugest fan of light blue walls, but I do use navy a lot in my decorating. Cobalt is huge now. My den is painted navy and it gets lots of compliments.
I'm doing the dining room up in emerald green and am thrilled with the way it's coming out. It's not the hunter green of the 90s. |
OP here
I love navy too! I've been eyeing some really pretty navy lamps. The living room in the new house is a pale yellow. I really like it anD want to keep it....thinking about blue accents in there (rug, lamps....) I'm mostly stuck on what color to do the front hallway. I hate the color it is now. It's very colonial looking, lots of white woodworK. That's why I was thinking a gray blue. The yellow living room is adjacent to this hall as well. What do you think of a light blue gray? |
The wonderful thing about paint is that it's so easy to change. Pick a color you love, something that would make you happy when you walk in the door. If you hate it in 6 months, you can choose something else. |
Light blue grey sounds lovely. Paint the front hallway what you want. It's the first thing you see comin in and should make you happy. |
