Infertility Support and Discussion
| Did you get pregnant via IVF or not, and used acupuncture and chinese herbs to get pregnant? If yes, who is your practioner and where is he/she located? |
| I got pregnant and believe it was acu and nutrition changes. My nutritionist was Susan Mudd in Rockville, MD. My acupuncturist was Hena at Pulling Down the Moon in Rockville. I made huge changes in my diet and did acu two times per week. I did this for three months. My 3rd IVF resulted in a pregnancy at age 42. |
PP here. Need to add. My first two IVF cycles were miserable. I had low counts, and even poorer quality apparently. RE wanted to cancel my third cycle because of an even lower count and he suspected poor quality again. I was devastated. RE gave me the talk about abandoning our efforts in IVF. But at ER they extracted three more eggs than they expected. I believe the nutri and acu changes improved my egg quality. But as one RE told me, your acu appts must be relaxing and if you are stressed out getting to and fro your appts it defeats the purpose of going there and may, in fact, reduce the likelihood of pregnancy. Plus, acu and nutrition changes work slowly. It can take months. If you wish to try IVF in April, start your changes at least 3 or 4 months prior. |
| Yes. Alex Knox on CT Avenue across street from zoo. Google her. |

Last year I was trying to get pregnant and noticed that my cycles were varying in length. After about 3 months of trying with no success, I started going to an acupuncturist in Silver Spring, Greta McVey. I saw her once a week for about 4 months. At the same time I got my hormone levels tested and went through an HSG. My periods got back on a regular 28 day cycle. I got pregnant last May about 2 days after the HSG. At the time of the HSG the doctor said to me, "Well sometimes these are theraputic . . ." At the time I attributed the pregnancy to the HSG. Now, I believe that the acupuncture may have helped.
Unfortunately, I had to terminate that pregnancy. Fast forward, I started seeing a RE and have been diagnosed with a luteal phase defect. I'm going to start on fertility injections with my next cycle. Did I have a LPD last year and the acupuncture helped me lengthen the luteal phase? Maybe, maybe not, I don't know for sure. I'm 40, so I felt like I needed to take more agressive steps to get pregnant this time around. |

No - did acupuncture for four months and did not get pregnant during numerous IUI cycles. I also visualized, got weekly massages, had my massage therapist do reki on my ovaries, stopped running and drinking during my 2ww, etc.
I think it is nice to think that we have some control over infertility by changing our eating, exercise and other habits, but I don't think that is true for many of us. |
| No. Acupuncture helped me to manage the stress, but did not help me to conceive. |
My acupuncturist is Hena at Pulling Down the Moon, she is very Knowledgeable and has great bed manner. |

The above poster seems to have responded to my post, but it wasn't me!
I'm sure you meant Hena has a great "bedside" manner. I doubt she would be pleased to know that on DCUM people were commenting on her great bed manner. LOL |

no, despite months of accu and major diet changes.
ivf did work, on the first try. |
| It didn't work for me (and I did everything the accu dr "prescribed"-- diet changes, reduce stress, etc), I also felt like it was a waste of money. Since I paid quite a bit of money out of pocket for fertility treatments, I really wish I had saved the money I had spent on acupuncture for them. They did work. |
| Acu does not work for everybody. But statistics show it does work for some. |
You need to see an Acupuncturist Fertility Specialist and Fertility Nutritionist. Pulling Down The Moon Acupuncturist and Nutritionist are specializing on IVF and IUI and I recommend seeing Hena and Susan. |
| I must tell you that if you see a Chinese Medicine Doctor it may be better. I went to a Chinese med dr and he was surprised that all these acupuncture clinics simply have the goal of increasing blood flow to the uterus or ovaries. He said that's not how acupuncture is intended to work. He said the problem with the body has to be dx first. So a woman may have headaches for example but it may be due to digestive issues. So the solution would be to fix the digestive issues to resolve the headaches rather than to increase bloodflow directly to the area of the headache. |
