OP, we just took our first plane trip with our 8-month old. She got sick soon after we arrived at our destination with a bad cold. After two days of that, she was back to being her old self, albeit with snot and coughing, but happy and enjoying herself (which she always does even when sick). Only when she had a fever the first couple of days she was subdued. She slept the entire flight back, did not show signs of her ears bothering more than on the way in when she was not sick. It was stressful for us and we were tired from checking in on her a thousand times a night, but it was ok. If I were in your shoes and could postpone by one day I would. If not, I think 4 days out in a cold should not be too terrible. Just make sure to use saline to ease the congestion a lot before you get on the plane and during the flight when he's awake, and to feed on take off and landing. And to have the name of hospitals that speak English wherever you are going in France (if you don't speak French) and your pediatrician's blessing and phone number. We had to call ours from our vacation and she was very calm about the whole thing, which made us calmer too.
Enjoy your trip if you decide to go!
