Just wanted to spread the word on this down and out tv mount we recently purchased. We rearranged our house and put the tv over the fireplace (no other options given our family room set up). After one week of neck strain, the new set up wasn't working. We ended up buying a down and out tv mount from www.dynamicmounting.com and it is awesome. You can pull the tv down to eye level and swivel it around. They offer a nice rebate for spreading the word-- we really love the product!

Talk about competing to be the focal point of a room though. |
Klassy. |
Please try to keep your tasteless purchases to yourself. We are tittering about you OP |
When flat screens came out, I think the first thing some real estate photographer thought was: "Let's put it over the fireplace, instead of a painting." Advertisements and home designers went nuts for this concept and the image persists on websites to this day.
I think the OP's experience is typical. Put the TV over the fireplace and within a week, you move it. I think the referenced product is dumb but it's got to be better than over the fireplace. |
I think this is a great idea, and kudos to the OP. During out year long house search, we passed over more than a few houses if there was absolutely no other place to put the TV other than over the fireplace.
Based on what I've seen, the only people who are generally happy with that setup really don't watch a lot of TV in the living room. There's no way to make that setup no suck without some kind of gizmo mentioned by the OP - it's just not ergonomic. |
Kudos as well. We also have a mount that brings the TV down on a pivot arm so that it is lower than over the fireplace. We bought a mirrored finish for the TV, so when it isn't on it looks like a mirror above the fireplace.
We love to watch TV. We are into all kinds of sports, and we love the way it looks. Our neighbors put a large piece of artwork on pneumatic hinges over their TV, so you flip the artwork up when you are watching (which is great because their tv got terrible glare from their skylights). |
funny how the house everyone goes to to watch a big game or big episode of a show is the one with the big tv over the fireplace because it is the best option. |
People don't go to watch the Superbowl at at particular house because of the house. They go because of the people who live in the house. Surprise, surprise, people actually have superbowl parties in mobile homes - think about that. |
It is a good solution if you have to put the tv over the fireplace. |
