what birth control do you use? is it crazy to use condoms?

Anonymous
Until recently we thought I was infertile. (Ha!). I'm almost 40 so after this baby is born the pill probably isn't for me.In general hormonal BC makes me nercous A vasectomy seems drastic. Is it that unusual to use condoms?

Haate, hate, hate condoms. I have a paraguard and LOVE it. It is by far the best birth control I've ever been on and I've probably tried almost all of them.

We use condoms exclusively. You get used to it (bonus! Less messy!). BCP killed my sex drive and DH isnt ready for a vasectomy so it works for us. Just keep the economy sized boxes stocked

Same here, plus NFP as kind of a back up (not Catholic, just not a fan of how hormones made me feel).

Nothing crazy about condoms. Work fine, less mess, and doesn't change sex for me at all. DH says he doesn't get as much feeling, but it helps make the whole thing longer, which is better for me. Why do you think condoms are crazy?

Economy size boxes? I must he doing something wrong. Sex once a week is fine with me!

Nothing drastic about a vasectomy if you're done having kids in my book.
That's what we did. It's really wonderful.

We're both almost 40 and we've used condoms for long stretches in our relationship (including now). Personally, I don't know why everyone hates on them so much. As PPs have said..no hormonal side effects, Less mess (not that I'm freaked out by the mess), and DH lasts a little longer. Win all ways.

When I had my last annual appointment, my OB asked me about the pill. I told him we were doing fine with condoms, so why not stick with that. He said the failure rate is a bit higher with condoms, so he thought the pill was better. That's all well and good, but I am not excited about hormonal methods so we will keep going with condoms.

For us the lasting longer is part of the problem. DH is very good at bringing me to orgasm quickly, but then condoms slow him down a lot. And frankly, once the condom's been on him, oral sex isn't an option.

another vote is the paragard. Downside is that your periods might get heavier, but that is outweighed, for me, by no hormones.

If you're done having kids, vasectomy is such a great option. Procedure takes a few minutes and the recovery is pretty minimal.

And I don't think there's any drug kickbacks with condoms, either.

I don't want to get all political / controversial either, but I also think that the actual failure rate of condoms is over reported. I've always had partners who are pro condom use, and in being a sexually active woman for 20 years, I can only think of one incident where the condom apparently failed, and it was really um.. "User error" ( he had finished but kept going).
