Tyler's Place

I am looking for feedback on Tyler's Place in VT. If you've been there, I'd love to hear about your experience.

Our children are 5 and 3.

We went for several summers when our kids were younger and loved it. The last time we were there was 2003, when our oldest was 10 and youngest 4. The kids program is excellent -- counselors are great and activities very fun. My husband and I were really able to relax and have fun, knowing that the kids were in good hands while we played tennis, biked, hiked and just hung out. The food is good and healthy, but nothing fancy. Accommodations are also very plain. Most folks were from the NY or Boston areas, but a few DC families and a scattering from other parts of the country and overseas. You can usually find compatible people to hang out with. On the whole, I'd recommend it strongly for families with younger kids.

We've gone to Tyler Place for the last 8 years and it's the best vacation ever. You actually get some time to rest, relax and see your spouse. And the kids have ton of fun -- they fall into bed exhausted every night. (From swimming, hiking, rock climbing, fishing ....)

And lots of DC people go there. We're flying up in July with about 6 other families.

Call them today -- there is usually a wait list.

We went last summer and our kids were that age -- they loved it (and so did we). As the others said, it's not fancy -- it's really camp for everyone.
One thing that takes some people by surprise is that your kids eat all their meal with their group. It was strange not to eat with our kids at first, but very liberating not to get up every 10 seconds to get something for a child!
We are going back this summer and talked some friends into joining us. There is a waitlist, but it moves, so if they tell you everything is booked, don't be discouraged. We didn't sign up until the spring last year and got off the waitlist after about a month.

Thanks for the info.

It sounds like a lot of fun. I am wondering if it is better enjoyed when the kids are a year or two older than mine are now (5 and 3). I am wondering, in particular, if the 3 year old (who still naps) will get a lot out of it. It seems like there is probably a window where it's worth going and I'm trying to figure out what that is.

Tyler Place is perfect for still-napping 3 year olds - they are with you for the afternoon (1:30-5:30). I have had kids aged 0-7 at TP, and each age was fantastic.
