Mundo Verde after care

Anonymous
We went on a tour yesterday of the school and were impressed with the facilities, teachers and administrators we met. The aftercare program seems really expensive. Does anyone have experience to recommend?

From what I can tell,

$100 for before care
$450 for after care
$75 for extended care (6:00-6:30)

This is significantly more than what we currently pay at another charter. We don't qualify for a discount. And unfortunately drop-in is not an option either.

The Padres association doesn't allow you to sign up until the school year begins, I would ask there otherwise.

Thanks

That's about right. That's a big point of contention about MV on these boards.

What do you mean awful?

Please, can you elaborate on what you did not like about the aftercare? We were excited about the fact that the school was staffing and running the program almost as an extension of school with fun activities. We've run the gamut of aftercare provided by others (YMCA, Springboard) where the staff can be very loving towards the students yet not in sync with the school and/or early childhood approaches to discipline.

Is the aftercare exclusively in Spanish?

Many families seek alternative arrangements. You simply do not get what you pay for.

Well, what do you get for $450/mo? That is quite steep!

Families split the cost of a babysitter for less than MV aftercare, I believe some do JCC, some YMCA, some Martial Arts etc. Parents get creative when their school doesn't have a good aftercare at reasonable price.

I understand; but what does MV offer for that price? Are there private soccer lessons with Messi; Spanish Flamenco dancing; or cooking classes with Jose Andres? What is the aftercare like?

Oh sorry thought you were asking what else you can get for $450.

Oh gosh here we go again. Glad you can afford $2k for a nanny and it's not the same to compare FT nanny and aftercare. $450 a month for just one kid is highway robbery.

Exactly. Two kids for $900/mo. at a PUBLIC SCHOOL...for 15 hours/week?!? Um, no.

We have a hard time doing $300. It stinks.
