When did your child learn to make a bed properly?

Anonymous
Kids are 6 and 7, they just flop the bedspread in the bed to cover it and throw the pillows on top. When is a good time to have them make it the proper way?

Not yet. Age 12. Falls in the category of "little problem" in our household.

My kid doesn't have a bedspread. When I tell her to "make your bed" I mean she should make the blanket look neat and make her pillows and stuffed guys look neat.

Depends if you're really to make it a priority.

You can start by changing their sheets every Saturday morning, and having them help you.

Routine is everything.

Some may consider this ultra young, but DD was making her bed properly at age 4. But the novelty of it has worn off and now she is 7, and has no interest in making her bed ever.

It kinda slipped off my "to do with the kids" list

My kids start at 4. for the first year, it looks like there's a dead body under the covers when they're done, but then it gets much better. Youngest is just 4.5 and he's pretty good. Oldest is 9. His bed looks better than ours! 6 yo can do it when she wants to, but usually leaves it a mess to spite me.

Mine are 6 and 9 and they have to make their beds before coming downstairs in the morning, but I don't critique their technique yet. I'm just trying to get them in the habit of doing it.

I am 41 and have never made my bed.

DH, is that you?

For the love of God. Be happy they make their bed at all. They are 6 & 7.

Omg! My friend's father required "corners" ... She is still in counseling at 45.

I don't make my bed unless I feel like it, so I don't require it of the kids unless company is coming and they have kids who are likely to want to play in the kids' rooms. They're 11 and 7 and both suck at it.

When I was a nanny I had them start when they were 3, They just had to pull the top cover somewhat straight, there was always a pajama leg or stuffed animal hanging out the side. I also had them pull the sheets off their beds ( with help) and shake the pillows out of their cases on the days the cleaning person was coming and would be changing their sheets. They did this to help her so it taught them to be helpful too.
By 5 they were good about doing it quite well for the most part.
