| I know many of you go to the Outer Banks regularly, what about Emerald Isle? Is it nice? Has anyone been and have a favorite rental they like? Is it a good family vacation spot? It was it on a tv show and the area looked pleasant but have never heard anything about it. Thanks. |

| We go there every year! It's a big family vacation and everyone has a good time. We stay right on the beach which I think is worth the extra money. Nearby Beaufort had cute restaurants and shops for an afternoon. The aquarium is fun too. Don't know where you're coming from, but it is a long drive from DC. |

| Water at the beach is much prettier and warmer than OBX due to the Gulf Stream. The town is a wasteland, lots of marines |

It's a great place to go with family; quiet, not too crowded. There is mini-golf, lots of regular golf close by, waterslides, an aquarium nearby, and a small number of shops and restaurants (more chain store shopping is within a 30 minute drive). Lots of people rent bikes and ride around. Emerald Isle Realty is one of the larger rental companies on the island.
I'm not sure when the PP sees a lot of Marines there; we've been going in peak season for over 20 years and I rarely see any Marines, except for the occasional helicopter that flies over the ocean. |

Nothing at all, but I think the original poster who mentioned them made it sound like the town of EI is crawling with young men, which is not true. This is not a beach where singles come to mingle AT ALL. It's mostly large groups of families. |
