Washington Latin PCS Upper School 'Metamorphoses' Play

Anonymous
Did anyone else attend the Washington Latin PCS Upper School production of Metamorphoses this weekend at Sitar Center? I was quite encouraged to see such well-spoken teens having so much fun with a reinterpretation of the classic myths. I won't lie--as a Washington Latin lower school mom--- I went expecting.... perhaps to be a teensy bit bored, or to find the play 'funny' in the way that watching kids act is funny (you cringe a bit for them and remember your own acting days....). For me, it was actually a really good play. The tone was refreshing-- both touching and humorous. I loved the three student musicians sitting in the front row playing guitar and singing Beatles tunes during the interludes. The fact that so much of the interpretation was crafted by the students prevented it from having that 'canned feel'. Reminded me of how the classics really can touch upon the universals, and are now being handed down to our children for reinvention.... Anyone else see the play?

No, but thank you for the information. My oldest DC is 5 y.o., so we're a long ways away from thinking about middle school. Nonetheless I find it encouraging and exciting that such a remarkable program exists as a charter opportunity. Thank you for sharing!

It was great!! Of course, I may be biased as DC was in it (full confession). But I thought it was humorous and inventive and did a good job linking the classics with psychological issues that are timeless.
