How to sell an expensive piece of furniture that I don't want?

Anonymous
My parents downsized and gave me a tiny occasional table that is an expensive reproduction antique. I think it is worth at least a few hundred dollars, maybe even a few thousand. It doesn't suit my tastes at all. How can I find out what it is worth and hopefully sell it?

Take it to an antique dealer - have them tell you what they think.

Does it have any stamps or markings from the manufacturer?

I'll look at it again tonight for any markings. Is there a good antique dealer in DC/MD that you might recommend?

I believe it is a Kindel table, Winterthur collection, made in the 1980s.

Um...not an antique

There isn't much of an aftermarket for expensive reproductions unfortunately - tastes have gotten more casual. You can expect to get 10-20% of the value on craigslist. You can try ebay if the piece is shippable.

I can't imagine they paid thousands for a small table in the 1980s. That sort of thing might have been $200-300 then and has NOT gained in value since.

I don't know - some of these prices are nice.

You should get in touch with that dealer then. Most of those are dining tables, which would have been more expensive to start with.

OP here. Thanks for that post to Etsy. That looks very promising.

You can try Weschler's auctions in DC. They have Tuesday metro sales that are perfect for this kind of item. I've actually sold Kindel reproductions with them and gotten decent prices.
