Hi,
Has anyone ever requested a tutor from parent resource center tutor list? It is so embarrassing to call each teacher/tutor from that list and ask the tutoring fee. I cannot afford $85 per hour. Another tutor mentioned that it is $55 per hour. $55 per hour for tutoring is expensive as well. Why don't they mention the tutoring costs in that list? |
| That seems high. What subject and grade level? I tutor elementary students and charge $40/hour. |
| I used to tutor and I was on that list. Parents called me and asked my rates all of the time. It's not something to be embarrassed about, although I would include it in a brief conversation about their qualifications and approach. You're trying to see if they might be a good fit without wasting too much of your or their time. |
| Why be embarrassed? Just ask. They probably don't want to publish the fees because people will focus on that before seeing the credentials. Plus that list would have to be updated constantly as various tutors increase their fees. |

| My fees very much depend on the subject. Algebra is a breeze for me to tutor, because I have years of materials on hand. Geometry I am perfectly qualified and capable to tutor, but it's going to require a lot more effort from me to prepare for weekly lessons, so I will charge more accordingly. |
| what do you think the reasonable price for spanish or English tutoring should be? |
What level? |
Where are you in the county, and what level of tutoring is this? (Spanish 1, AP Spanish, etc) |
looking for spanish level 1 and 2 English - grammar, essay writing. This is for a middle school kid. If the tutoring fees are lower elsewhere, then I can drive up to 15 miles to get lower tutoring cost for either of the subjects. My budget is around $ 20 to $30 per hour for either of the subjects. If the tutoring costs are lower, then I can register my middle schooler for twice a week lessons. |
| You may have trouble finding a tutor for $20-$30 an hour, especially a certified teacher from that list. Even my dog walker makes more per hour than that. |
