Aidan Parents

Can any current Aidan parents give me some insight into how Aidan nurtures the creative side of your children?

Our dc was lucky enough to be accepted, but we worry that the side that loves to draw and paint wont be nurtured.

Also dc loves to be outside exploring and learning about nature, does Aidan do anything to foster this?

Our dc is in Primary - first year of it. Painting and drawing are part of almost every day for dc. Art is also a big deal for our dc, like yours, so this is important to us. They also do collage, chalk and other art forms.

Montessori by definition integrates nature into its curriculum in a variety of sensorial ways. For instance, each Montessori class has a class animal of some sort that the children care for - a hamster, some fish, etc. Or, during fall, children might gather different colored leaves and make art with collage about autumn. Or they might gather leaves and things and then use them to make rubbings. They learn about how the earth revolves around the sun. Etc.

The campus of Aidan is not the most beautiful in terms of trees and plantings, but love and respect for nature are deeply integrated into the curriculum at every level. The school is currently considering creating a garden in the space it has available at some point in the near future - the intention being that it would be something that is cared for by the children.

We cannot speak more highly of the school - and hope you'll join our community!

PP. Thank you for your thoughtful and detailed post. I think Aidan is such a wonderful school but on my visit, the kids seemed so serious, quiet, and studious (all good things mind you). I just worry so much that the silly, goofy, artsy side of my child will be stifled.
